Sudanese plants used in folkloric medicine: screening for antibacterial activity. Part IX.

Abstract: Of 66 extracts from 15 Sudanese species (in 12 plant families) used in local medicine, 53 showed significant antibacterial activity; the test bacteria were Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Resultsof phytochemical screening of the 6 most active plants (notably Terminalia brownii and Acacia nilotica) are presented. (4 ref.)
